This morning, our community celebrated the donation of $25,000 towards a new playground from Phillips 66. This is a significant contribution towards our goal of a safe, inclusive play space for our school and neighborhood. We are grateful to Phillips 66 for their generous contribution and to our Foundation team for making this possible. PTA budget approved, request for new tech discussed at November meeting

Monique from Salt and Straw presents PTA President Christy Marten with a check for $525, Chapman’s share of the profit sharing from last year’s flavor contest.

The PTA voted unanimously to approve a budget just short of $200,000 at the Nov. 7 meeting and discussed funding options for new sets of Chromebook Flips for each classroom. The cost to provide this level of support would be approximately $45,000.

An update on new hiring for EAs was given, including the addition of two EAs for the main campus and one for the Ramona campus, to replace an EA who has become a paraeducator.

Full minutes from the meeting are on the archives page under Parent Resources on the website. If you have questions or agenda items you’d like to add to a future agenda, please contact a member of the PTA.

Reminder: Laughing Planet tomorrow!

LPCYour dinner plans are done tomorrow with the help of Laughing Planet at the EcoTrust Center. 721 NW 9th Ave.

The current seasonal special is the Autumn bento with ginger-soy pork or tofu, curry roasted delicata squash, lacinato kale, jasmine rice, pickled beets, daikon and carrots, sesame-hazelnut gomasio, and orange-sesame miso sauce. Did I just include a link to let you know what “gomasio” was? Yes, I did! The regular menu is here.

Chapman benefits from to-go orders too. Hope to see you there!

Spaghetti Together by the numbers!

Our Spaghetti Together night was a rousing success! Last night we shared:

  • 75 pounds of Spaghetti!
  • 42 jars of pasta sauce!
  • 35 pounds of carrots!
  • 25 pounds of celery!
  • 12 cases of water!
  • 54 loaves of bread!
  • 400+ apples and a crazy amount of ooey, gooey caramel!

And endless amounts of laughter, song and good cheer. Thanks to everyone, including the more than 40 volunteers and staff who helped us to pull it all off. Our friends at Food Front, Portland Nursery, Zupans, New Seasons, Fred Meyer, Trader Joes, Kens Artisan Bakery, St. Honore Boulangerie and Lovejoy Bakers all contributed with in-kind donations.  And though we did not intend for this night to be a fundraiser, your generous contributions added more than $1600 to our Friends of Chapman bank account – more than enough to cover our costs. Now enjoy this very brief slideshow!

Thanks to the Mayhews and Fern & Maple for covering the Ramona Coffees!

Thanks to the Mayhew family for starting us out with coffee at the Ramona campus. The Mayhews just moved here this summer and mom Natalie has brought her business with her! Fern & Maple offers full-service event planning, party and brand styling for corporates, adults and children.

The next PTA Coffee at the Ramona is on Wednesday, November 15.  Check/Add the Friends of Chapman calendar to confirm future dates. See you there!

PTA Coffees sponsored by Groundwork!

This year’s main campus PTA coffees are made possible this year by our generous friends at Groundwork.

Pop by Room 6 for a freshly-brewed cup or thermos refill just before or after Round Up, twice a month. With three Portland locations, [the closest to Chapman is at 2355 NW Vaughn] Groundwork offers a tea and coffee subscription service and even a mobile espresso bar for hire – great for parties and events!

Visitors with a few spare minutes this Friday can help us to put together signage for the Costume Parade on October 31. We just need a few helping hands to tape laminated teacher signs to card stock and glue them to wooden posts. No prior sign-making experience required!
