This fall there are some changes – the survey is online only now. Why? It will save the Safe Routes to School team a lot of time, paper and money.

The travel survey helps the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) improve its Safe Routes to School program and helps prioritize safety projects when funding is available. Additionally, the data collected through this survey is key for Safe Routes to School to secure grant funding for safety programming and infrastructure throughout the city.

Congrats to Anneka Winters and Dave Gardner, winners of a $25 Eb & Bean Giftcard!

Of the 131 end-of-the-year survey respondents, 49 entered the drawing for the Eb and Bean gift card.

Those names were entered into a spreadsheet and a random number generator chose #3 (Anneka Winters) and #21 which indicated, “If I’m drawn, please provide the gift card to a staff member who is rarely recognized for their efforts.

The PTA board has chosen to award the second card to Dave Gardner, our school custodian. Thank you, Dave, for all your hard work! Thanks again to all who took the time to share their thoughts on our school community and congrats to the winners! A full report on the survey results will be emailed in the next week or so.

Calling all freelancers, side-giggers, contractors and otherwise self-employed business owners!

Do you own your own business, freelance, or have a little something going on the side? Do you ever wish you had a community-based directory of businesses and services to call on or refer others to?

Parent Lissa Manion has stepped up to help us create a community business directory. If you provide a service or own a business that may be of interest to the Chapman community, we encourage you to fill out this form! All listings are free through an introductory period that will run through end of the school year. This fall, we may offer free listings to Chapman PTA members and charge a small fee for community members at large. Access to the listings themselves will be always be public.

For now, we are keeping things simple, by including this directory in spreadsheet format on our parent resources page. Depending on the level of interest, we may make some snazzier improvements this summer.

Lissa also hosts a regular networking event for women business owners and would be open to hosting one for the Chapman community if there is interest. Please contact Lissa at lissa.manion@gmail.com if you are interested in either of these opportunities or have questions, feedback or ideas on the directory.

Digital Families Night a Success!

We had a great turn out to tonight’s PTA Digital Families event, co-hosted with the Forest Park PTA and sponsored by National PTA and Facebook. More than 80 participants came to learn about digital safety with their families, with Chapman Principal Van Der Wolf and Forest Park Principal Lisa Newlyn co-moderating the event.

Congratulations to the Long family, who won our grand prize of $100 for a family activity of their choice, and to the Lucey, Goldwyn, Lilley and Stech families, who won our surprise bonus prizes – $20 gift cards to Powells Bookstore!

Much appreciation to a great volunteer crew from both schools and a special shout out to Kristi Dille, Oregon PTA President-Elect who came by to lend support!
