Lincoln Youth Baseball is looking for more Kids to play AA Baseball!

Lincoln Youth Baseball is looking for more Kids to play AA Baseball!

This is for 2nd graders OR 3rd graders who haven’t played before.

In AA ball there is a mixture of pitching machines, coach pitch, and player pitch. As always, the emphasis is on fundamental skills, including pitching, and the players begin to develop the ability to hit competitive pitching from an opposing player. Typically the season begins with machine pitch with a transition to player pitch as the season progresses. The season starts in April and goes through mid-June. AA Teams usually start with 2 practices per week and then as games get into full swing, practices may be just once per week. Games are typically played 2x per week.

Oregon Education Funding Issues Demand Action

Dear Chapman Families,

It is truly a critical time in Oregon’s public schools, as the state faces major funding shortfalls. Portland Public Schools (PPS) anticipates over $17 million shortfall which means a reduction in services and staff. Portland schools will see bigger class sizes, fewer support staff (counselors, ELL teachers, learning resource teachers, Assistant Principals, and more). At Chapman next year, we may have many as 31 students in first grade classrooms and 36 in fifth grade. The funding crisis starts at the state level, and unless something changes while the Oregon legislature is in session now, our schools will continue to be chronically underfunded.

The lack of state funding is not an issue that will go away if we fundraise more for our school this year or next year, or the year after. If our leaders do not make policy changes, our schools will continue to be underfunded and the shortfall will get greater and greater, making it impossible for parents to fundraise their way out of it.

NOW is the time to let our state leaders know education matters to us and force them to make bold changes to Oregon’s education funding.

New to Chapman? Know someone who is?

We have had an incredibly hard time getting contact emails into our parent directory for families who are new to Chapman this year.

The password-protected parent directory is a service of the PTA that allows parents to access email, phone and classroom assignments children at Chapman. It is also the only way that the PTA/Foundation can easily send direct emails to families or for classrooms/grades to self-organize.

We feel it’s important for new families to be connected to our parent community, so if you are new to Chapman, please know that we are trying our best to add all new families who wish to be included. If you have not received any emails from Friends of Chapman this year, please make sure you are in our parent directory by sending whatever you’d like included (child(ren)’s name/teacher/parent email(s)/phone) to  chapmanptamembership@gmail.com.

If you know of a family who is new, please share this message.
